Every month we will be taking a look at one of our fantastic sponsors. This month we are profiling Iron Level Sponsor, Bike Source.

Bike Source, which began as a dealer for Specialized bicycles, has been a Central Ohio staple for over 27 years. In the past two decades they have grown from their one shop in Dublin, to adding two other store fronts in Westerville and Clintonville. They have also expanded outside of Ohio by adding locations in Denver, CO, Kansas City, MO and Charlotte, NC. I had the opportunity to speak with Ryan Callahan, who has been with Bike Source for 10 years and manages of the Dublin location.

Although economic struggles have affected everyone, bike shops included, Bike Source is looking forward to 2009. They have new models from Cervelo and Specialized (still their top seller), and will be hosting their big spring sale from March 26 th to April 12 th . Outside of equipment, Bike Source is sponsoring the Olentangy Duathlon on May 8 th , and working with the running group MIT. “Until the recession, the number of bikers and triathletes was growing in Columbus,” said Callahan. “But it's not a fad anymore, and there's a more welcoming community.” Adapting to this change, Bike Source has updated their website ( www.bikesourceonline.com ) and will be sending out “Hot Sheets,” a list of their top picks and sales items to select groups. Lucky for COTT, we're included in that select group.

If you are new to the sport, Bike Source has an experienced staff and encourages continuing education among their employees. When buying your first bike, Callahan recommends a road bike for beginners. A road bike (versus a tri-specific bike) teaches the novice valuable bike handling skills, which in the end is safer for the rider and those around them.Whether you are a newbie, weekend warrior or experienced athlete the staff at Bike Source are there to assist you with any questions or services. “We have the best mechanics,” said Callahan. “As a whole we do our best to be complete shop for service and products.”
