Every month we will be profiling a member of our COTT community. This month we have interviewed Aaron Fridenmaker. Aaron worked on revising our website, which consisted of changes to the calendar and updating content. Currently, he is working on streamlining the membership dues process and adding a texting feature to allow for more event notification. Aaron is also hoping to add more member resources, so he is open to any comments or feedback regarding the website. Below are a few questions we asked of Aaron, to better get to know our technologically savy team member.
Q: Where is your hometown and/or the current city in which you live?
A: I’ve lived in the Columbus area my whole life.
Q: If you are allowed to provide it, for what company do you work?
A: I'm a systems engineer for MindLeaders.
Q: What got you interested in web designing?
A: Web design isn't really my job but I studied programming so I can pick it up here and there.
Q: Where did you go to school, and did your studies guide you toward web design?
A: I started in computers at Briggs High School where we had a cutting edge computer lab and a great teacher (Way to go Mr. Martini). I got a 2-year degree in programming but decided I didn't want to code for a living. So while I've always worked more in hardware, my programming background allows me to pick up web and scripting as needed.
Q: Do you do any other work than things that are web based?
A: In my "real job" I am responsible for the network and server infrastructure for MindLeaders.
Q: How long have you been participating in triathlons/multi-sport?
A: I did a few seasons back in high school and loved it. Unfortunately, my "wild side" got the best of me and I spent the last 13 years being generally unhealthy. I quit smoking and started training in the summer of 2007.
Q: What got you interested in triathlons/multi-sport?
A: I saw the Ironman World Championships on TV in the 80's and was hooked. I grew up as a competitive swimmer. I started triathlon in high school when my friend and I got bikes.
Q: What has been your favorite and/or most memorable race?
A: My first triathlon is probably the most memorable. I had only run one time before the race. I really had no idea what I was getting myself into. Anyone who has done a tri before can imagine how my legs felt at the beginning of the run.
Q: What races are you planning on doing this year?
A: I'm registered for the Muncie Half in July and the Augusta 70.3 in September. I'll do a couple sprints in between somewhere but I haven't decided those yet.
Q: Are there any other activities (sports or non-sports related) in which you participate?
A: I have a really addictive personality so triathlon consumes a significant portion. My wife is finishing up her master’s degree so I try to take care of most of the cooking and cleaning. When you add in work, I don't have time for much else.
Q: And finally...what do you want to be when you grow up?
A: A rock star.
